Explore the video provided and reflect on the themes of a PLN in a professional capacity.
PLN is an important tool in education or any professional sector. First, it enables individuals at the professional levels to connect and work or discuss other important urgent matters despite their location in the world. It accommodates them and eliminates the aspect of geographic locations. The PLN enhances the education of the indigenous communities by sharing their stories on social media thus pushing healthy conversations and awareness. Polarization is another significant theme whereby the tools within the PLN allow students’ and educators’ voices to be heard and pass knowledge across by sharing their stories regarding all fields be it education, business, or culture. Thus, students are motivated to encourage healthier use of social media.
Which social media platforms are beneficial in education?
Zoom is the key social media platform that allows conferences where students can join classrooms, present their assignments, discuss among themselves, and listen to or consult their tutors. The social media platforms are many, but to name a few beneficial ones they include; TedEd Google+, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Chegg, Brainly, ClassHook, and Classroom among many others. All these platforms allow students to share knowledge and link them for discussions or consultations as well as classroom conferences.
When working with the vulnerable sector, how does social media fit into professionalism and regulations?
The vulnerable sector houses all individuals who are likely to depend on someone else. Social media allows the establishment of professional networks and their expansion as well as the exchange of classroom information and resources with other educators. Social media can be negative and offensive to such a population. Thus, the regulations provided by the platforms regulate sharing of harmful content that might upset individuals. Some platforms also have a legal age requirement before individual access the content or limits some content to a specific group of people. Thus, when working with a vulnerable group, it’s important to select a social media platform that takes care of the legal requirements and ensures their safety. However, employing unregulated platforms will result in pressure on the vulnerable group.

Hey Isabella, great post. I’m curious to hear how or if you utilize social media as a form of education. If you do, is it supplemental alongside traditional methods, or is it a key resource for you?
Keep up the hard work!
