Social Media plays a role in communication by sharing news and updates via platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. The PLN can use these platforms to share, create and consume content, build relationships, and establish user connections through photos, videos, blogs, or podcasts. Social Media makes communication simple and fast hence can be a tool for sharing diverse information.

Social media has resulted in a misunderstanding of information that should be accurate and verified. Misinformation can be spread fast via social media, this makes the platforms less effective since the content might be misleading. Before posting any content review, it is advisable to ensure it makes sense and can positively impact the users.

Social media allows PLN to communicate and share information with many people in the community at the same time. It enables individuals to readily communicate and receive information on everything. PLN can even use this platform to help the people in remote areas to be informed. However, the platforms may not be accessible to people of different ages in the community. For instance, the elderly have less access to social media, thus, despite them needing information more than any other person, fully reliance on social media for a PLN is likely to work for them well.

Without permission, there should be no sharing of personal information or pictures through social media. Case of the breach of privacy and instances of disinformation should be reported immediately to the employer. Social media use for PLN services should be professional and should only report accurate information in simple and precise ways for followers to get informed. The use of social media and communication is mutual. They both facilitate communication and help share information from the LPN to the public, thus developing skills of interacting and enabling more learning.
